The Dangling Switch Is What Makes a Nice Lamp Look Cheap
You bought a moon, and it came with a light switch on a string
Moon lamps are a genuinely good object. Someone put real work into the surface so it reads like the actual moon, craters and all, and lit up at night it does exactly what you hoped it would do to the room.
Then you look down. There is a plastic inline switch dangling halfway along the cord, the kind that came free with a table lamp in 1997, and a little wooden ring holding the whole thing up. The lamp is lovely. The hardware around it is not.
Why the cord is the part everyone notices
Here is the awkward truth about a lamp on a nightstand: you look at it from lying down, from across the room, and every time you walk past. The glowing part is at eye level. So is everything supporting it. A cord that loops down the front of the table and a switch resting on the floor are, visually, part of the lamp whether you want them to be or not.
This is why a slightly better base changes the object more than it should. You are not upgrading the light. You are removing the two things that were undercutting it.
What the base does about it
Our upgraded lamp base handles both problems in the same small object. The switch is not on the cord any more, it is a button on the base itself, so turning the lamp on means pressing the thing the lamp is standing on. And the cord coils into a channel inside the base rather than hanging off the front of the shelf.
The shape is a plain rounded black disc, four inches across and about an inch tall. It is meant to disappear under the lamp and let the moon be the thing you look at.
What ours is like, honestly
Two things to be clear about before you buy. First, the moon lamp is not included. This is the base only, for people who already own the lamp and want the hardware to stop letting it down. Second, this is a small accessory doing a small job. It will not make the light brighter, change its color, or add a remote. It relocates a switch and hides a cable.

The short version
If your moon lamp looks better in photographs than it does on the actual nightstand, the lamp is probably not the problem. Put the switch on the base, hide the cord inside it, and the object finally looks the way it did in the listing photo that made you buy it.
